today's trends
Picking the right rug for your home is a big decision and we’re here to help. Our in-house design team researches and determines where the market has been, where it currently is, and how it will evolve in the future. We look to fashion, décor and art by way of print and social media, as well as industry shows and one on one conversations with customers to make these determinations. We pull inspiration everywhere from makeup to movies to really understand what looks are “in”, and what customers are shopping for. Our team prides itself in determining how each trend translates into your home – keeping a good balance between trend forward and more classic, timeless designs. Check out the following trends we’ve highlighted and the corresponding rugs that can make a real statement in your home!
over-dyed
Traditional patterns are updated with more open styling and fresh, new colors. The over-dyed look offers a mix of tradition and technology resulting in modern tonal rugs with a touch of old world charm. Shades of bright aqua, bold purple and vibrant red are staples in the trendy, vintage look of over-dyed area rugs and the bold colors revive the subtle, washed traditional patterns.
ikat
The antique weaving technique of ikat has made it’s way from the runway into the home market in a big way, seen in everything from throw pillows and upholstery to ceramics and wall art. This look is a natural for the area rug market…it adds a unique, old world aesthetic and textural interest to traditional and modern spaces alike. Use of color ranges from sophisticated and subtle neutrals to vibrant, fun brights.
gray
Gray is taking hold as a new neutral and really pops when used alongside warmer shades of gold and citron. These colors are seen in everything from ready-to-wear clothing and accessories to upholstery fabrics and throw pillows. In area rugs, we use textural yarns and the contrast of matte and shine to add interest to the tonal colors and, in some cases, give a metallic effect in the design.
over-scaled florals
For the casual/transitional customer that wants a bit more pattern on the floor, a large floral is becoming a very popular way to go. They add interest, warmth and color to the floor in modern, yet comfortable patterns. The larger elements make a dramatic statement alongside todays simpler, cleaner furniture lines.
outdoor living
Outdoor living areas are quickly growing in popularity and so follows the need for more sophisticated looks in outdoor furniture and area rugs. Montego, Caspian, Bali and Karavia cover the spectrum of outdoor colors and looks, providing a style and coloration for every customer from very simple traditional borders and textures to more globally inspired medallions and vibrantly colored florals.
